While the numbers settle
On every shape of move on this site there is something that does not have a destination yet. The duplicate sofa on a merge. One person's share on a split. A parent's furniture that will not fit a single room. Or simply two dates that refuse to meet.
Holding something is not indecision. It is what keeps a decision available.

What gets held, by shape of move
On a merge it is the duplicates — the second sofa, the second appliance, the furniture that might fit and might not. On a split it is one share, waiting for an address to exist. On a family arrival it is whatever a whole house holds that a single room cannot.
And on an ordinary move it is everything, for the gap between a completion you do not control and a key release you control even less.
The list, and whose name is on it
Storage without an inventory is a container you cannot see into. Ours is made at the property as the vehicle is loaded, and where a move involves more than one household the list records whose things are whose.
That is not administrative fussiness. On a split it is the whole point, and on a merge it is what allows a partial release later without anybody guessing.
Getting some of it back
Partial release is the normal request here rather than an unusual one. On a merge, the piece you have decided to keep comes out and the rest stays. On a split, one party collects their share when their address exists.
Tell us at collection that you expect to split the load later. It changes how it is stacked and it saves a day of moving other people's furniture to reach yours.
What we will not do
We will not push storage onto a move that does not need it, and we will not describe it vaguely. What is held, on what terms, whose it is, and what notice we need to bring it back out are all written down before anything is collected.

How long can things stay?
As long as the situation takes to resolve. Some holds are a single night between a load and a delivery; others run for months while a second address is found.

Can two people store separately in one job?
Yes, and on a split that is exactly how it is recorded. Each share is listed under the name it belongs to and released only to that person.

Can we get at our things?
With reasonable notice. Tell us before collection if you expect regular access, because it changes how the load is stacked.

Is it insured?
Goods in store are covered to the level your storage agreement states, subject to the exclusions written there. Declare anything of unusual value before collection.

What cannot go into store?
Anything hazardous or perishable, nothing living, and no money, documents or jewellery. Those stay with you rather than in a container you cannot open on a whim.

Can you deliver to a different address than you collected from?
Yes, and on most of these jobs that is the entire point — the destination did not exist when the goods were collected.
How many homes, and how many addresses?
Every address involved, and how many households go into how many. That one sentence tells us more than a room count ever does.
